As German Research Center for Environmental Health, Helmholtz Zentrum München pursues the goal of developing personalized medical approaches for the prevention and therapy of major common diseases such as diabetes mellitus, allergies and lung diseases. To achieve this, it investigates the interaction of genetics, environmental factors and lifestyle.

Germany’s largest research organization, the Helmholtz Association, is expanding its applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities and is putting together the Helmholtz Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Unit (HAICU), a cross-center unit based at the Helmholtz Zentrum München. Researchers at HAICU will develop AI−powered solutions for applications in all research areas funded by the Helmholtz Association. They will generate novel insights from the vast, complex and heterogeneous amounts of data of digitized research produced from all Helmholtz centers and research fields, implement these in situ and help solve real world problems.

To plan, manage and deliver the PR strategy of HAICU, we are recruiting a

Science Communication Manager (f/m/d) 2019/0283

You will

  • be part of one of the biggest and most prestigious applied AI initiatives in Germany and EU
  • be responsible for promoting the work of HAICU researchers
  • plan and deliver campaigns to establish the leading role of HAICU in solving real world problems
  • promote the value HAICU brings to national and international science and technology research ecosystems

As a Science Communication Manager you will

  • plan, develop and implement all public relation campaigns and activities within HAICU (e. g. develop and maintain HAICU webpage and carry on an active public outreach) and represent HAICU as first point of contact for the media
  • research and process of specialist information for various channels
  • organize and promote various scientific events (e.g. video conferences and online talks, Helmholtz Association internal and external workshops and conferences, hackathons, collaborative network meetings, visiting researchers program)
  • establish public relation events (like popular scientific discourses)
  • research conferences and other events

You have

  • a degree in media or communication sciences or a comparable education; a solid data science and/or life- or natural sciences background would be an advantage
  • proven experience in journalism or public relations, event management, communication and various outreach channels
  • an outstanding attention to detail and the ability to manage a broad range of different responsibilities
  • excellent written and spoken command of English and German as well as the ability to interact with the scientific community at different levels
  • self-motivation with strong team spirit and network thinking
  • an independent, self-reliant and systematic way of working
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills
