As German Research Center for Environmental Health, Helmholtz Zentrum München pursues the goal of developing personalized medical approaches for the prevention and therapy of major common diseases such as diabetes mellitus, allergies and lung diseases. To achieve this, it investigates the interaction of genetics, environmental factors and lifestyle.

The Information and Communication Technology department hosts a dynamic computing environment (CPU, GPU, and Cloud Computing) and participates in Europe-wide hybrid cloud infrastructure development projects, among others. The department is responsible for the mass storage systems for our highly dynamic and innovative research groups.

At the center we provide the IT infrastructure for artificial intelligence, deep learning and big data analytics and are looking for an

IT Network Engineer (f/m/d) 2019/0359

You will be responsible for

  • administration, installation, configuration, monitoring of network components (router, switches and overarching technologies like SDN)
  • monitoring of services and network infrastructure (LAN and WAN)
  • support for, benchmarking and optimizing of federated data transfer services over WAN
  • development of standards for network setups and architectures for the center and others
  • compilation and maintenance of technical documentation

Your profile

  • bachelor or master (or comparable) degree in informatics, mathematics, or a related subject from a university with internationally accepted quality standards or equivalent working experience in a related job
  • profound knowledge in operating complex network infrastructures (WAN, LAN, VPN, VLAN, SDN), as well as practical experience in the field of routing and switching
  • experience with standard IT services and processes (e.g. ITIL)
  • structured and systematic working style, excellent analytical skills, high willingness for continued education, ability to work in a team, service orientation
  • proficient knowledge of English

Ideally knowledge in further relevant areas such as


  • experience with firewall technology such as Cisco ASA and Checkpoint
  • CCNA or CCNP certified or equivalent training
  • knowledge of Python and Linux
  • knowledge of German
